As the UK confirms its first cases of the new coronavirus on the back of a World Health Organisation declaration of a global emergency, we are taking the time to consider the currently available published safety information.

It has been revealed that the virus is spreading more easily than previously thought and there’s evidence to suggest that, like other respiratory illnesses, it can be spread simply by touching a contaminated surface such as door handles or railings etc.

It’s currently unclear how long the virus can survive on surfaces, with the most common timeframe being between three to twelve hours. The CDC currently estimates that the virus survives only a few hours and that the risk of contamination from imports and their packaging is very low. However, they also suggest that this estimate may be updated as new information is received.

Although very unlikely in this case, some studies on coronaviruses suggest that they can survive up to 28 days on different surfaces depending on conditions like temperature and humidity.

As a result, air-freighted orders from the far east have been temporarily suspended.  Sea-freighted orders are not affected as the time for delivery is outside the advised incubation and survival time of the virus.

As large stocks of products in our promotional range are held in the UK, this policy will only really affect bespoke orders of certain types of merchandise and we don’t anticipate our usual service being disrupted.

If you need any further information about deliveries from the far east, or we can help with anything else, please contact us on 01206 272020 or e-mail us
